EDGE and GPRS Training
Who Should Attend?
The course is intended for anyone, who needs detailed technical information on radio transmission based on EDGE/EGPRS.
Course Content
- Introduction (GPRS architecture, GPRS protocol stack, GPRS data block scheduling in uplink and downlink direction, basic signalling procedures).
- EDGE technical data (GMSK and 8-PSK modulation comparison, Modulation and Coding Schemes MCSs and their performance, 8-PSK impact on performance of the analogue parts in MS and BTS, 8-PSK usage on BCCH frequency).
- GPRS/EGPRS standard improvements (resegmentation of packets during retransmission, addressing windows size and problem of the protocol window stalling, measurement accuracy, interleaving, Link Quality Control LQC modes: Link Adaptation LA and Incremental Redundancy IR, A-bis interface capacity).
- EGPRS radio performance (GPRS versus EGPRS capacity, link performance and coverage comparison).
Course Objectives
EDGE can be introduced in two ways: as a packet-switched enhancement for GPRS, known as Enhanced GPRS (EGPRS) or and as a circuit-switched data enhancement called Enhanced Circuit-Switched Data (ECSD). This technical training focuses on the packet-switched enhancement, EGPRS. It explains EDGE/EGPRS technology solutions comparing them with those used so far in the radio transmission.
Pre-requisites
Participants should have a general knowledge of Telecommunication, be familiar with GSM architecture and protocols used in GSM. Therefore we highly advise attending two other trainings: “Signalling System No. 7 in GSM” and “Signalling in GSM”.
Training Structure
One day training divided into logical sessions.
Methodology
Instructor led training.
