Who Should Attend?

The course is intended to anyone who needs an introdu-ction to GSM architecture and functionality on a basic level. The detailed description of technical solutions in GSM is not included in the course.

Course Content

1. History and evolution of GSM standard.
2. Idea and advantages of cellular networks
3. GSM network architecture.
4. Radio transmission.
5. Signalling procedures: location update, call set-up, handovers and international roaming.
6. Network security: authentication of a subscriber and ciphering.
7. SMS and SMS-CB.
8. Data transmission services.

Course Objectives

GSM Basics course will make the participants familiar with GSM telephony system and services available in it. This is the first course for those who wish to extend their GSM knowledge. More advanced courses are available next, including e.g. GPRS network functionality and evolution of GSM/GPRS networks to third generation networks (UMTS).

Pre-requisites

There are no prerequisites to attend the course.
